Early Childhood Strategic Group (ECSG)

The Early Childhood Strategic Group (ECSG) is a think tank, convened by the Center for Children’s Initiatives that takes on emerging issues in integrating services, creating more efficiencies and promoting better governance of early care and learning in New York City. The ECSG has worked actively since 1997 to promote full implementation of Universal Pre-kindergarten as a step toward a more coordinated and well-funded system of early care and education in New York City.

In recent years, CCI has convened the ECSG – composed of an evolving mix of advocates, service providers, researchers working on early care and learning issues – to focus on challenges in building a more coherent system of services and supports, from birth through third grade. ECSG acts as a catalyst to promote greater cooperation and collaboration among city agencies and to foster stonger links between community-based early childhood programs and the public education system.  The ECSG supports best practices in collaboration, by encouraging community-based programs to offer UPK and through the development of policy briefs, publications, and forums.

The Center for Children's Initiatives coordinates the work of the ECSG and houses its library.
