Infant & Toddler Care
The ideal program or provider for children under 3 understands your child's changing emotional and physical needs. The care arrangement should provide a setting and activities that will foster healthy development in a nurturing environment. Some skills children under 3 are working on include:
- Forming trust with adults
- Understanding words and early speech
- Exploring the environment
- Gaining confidence in mobility
All types of care can be appropriate if it is of high quality. This includes early childhood centers and home based services such as family child care. Some of the things to look for in a provider that will care for your child under 3 include:
- Babies are cuddled and comforted
- Reading, singing, and speaking with children
- Encouragement of exploration
- Sets routines and standards
